A Mother’s Prayer in a Scary World

prayer

I know this post is coming late in the afternoon. I was fully prepared to make the first Adventures of Wonder Nay and Wonder Jai post today but in the face of the Charleston shooting and the Dominican Republic’s ‘ethnic cleansing’, making a post about a baseball game seemed trivial and insensitive. The only problem is that I can’t think of anything at all to say about it.

At the moment, I find myself loosing words as quickly as we are unjustifiably loosing black bodies. Everything I can think of either sounds silly or painfully obvious or arbitrary….

If you are like me it is easy for you get weighed down by these kinds of things. If I am not careful I will completely shut down. And when Jai and life and work demand that I show up, my body will be there but my mind and soul will stay in the bed, brittle and broken into pieces.

Life is overwhelming, isn’t it?

I am doing my best not to live defeated anymore. I am fighting back! Take a stand with me today to fight the best way I know how…

Pray with us.

For our communities. For our children. For ourselves.

Father, cover the families that have been heartbroken by hatred and evil.

Comfort those who have lost loved ones or their homes.

Heal them and bring relief and restoration into their lives.

Help them to find rest in You.

Cover our children. Keep them safe and go with them throughout their lives.

Speak to their little hearts and minds and give them grace to follow You.

Send people around them who mean good and not evil!

Shelter them in Your love and help them to show that love to others.

Then, Lord, give us wisdom and cover us as we parent these children.

Help us to find the rest that You freely give us.

Bring peace to our hearts and our minds and then to our homes and our commutnities.

Open our eyes so that we can see Your hand at work even in painful and confusing situations.

Destroy every evil work planned against us!

And help us to walk in the fullness of life that You died to give us!

We thank for being good and faithful in all things!

We thank You for the victory that is already won!

You are our unfailing hope!

In Jesus Name,

Amen!

Stay Wonderful! 🙂
